ervin skalamera nature and wildlife photography

I was born in Croatia in 1959 but my family moved to Trieste, Italy when I was seven. I started off with a simple love of the great outdoors and wildlife, and the interest in photography developed through the desire to share with others the vision I encountered.

I work with my wife in dentistry, but my passion is nature photography. I had always been interested in art, but I couldn't find a medium that would give me the perfection that I wanted. Then I discovered photography and everything just fell into place. For the past twenty years I have immersed my family and myself in nature, photographing wildlife and landscapes around the world.

My skill level increased dramatically when I had the good fortune to become friends with Galen Rowell and his wife Barbara. Tragically, both Galen and Barbara died in the summer of 2002. I dedicate the images of my website to the late Galen Rowell who inspired me, taught me, and became my friend.

My images have received winning and highly commended awards in the "Oasis" magazine photography competition 2002-2003 as well in other national and international competitions.

I use only 35 mm Nikon gear from 14 to 500 mm lenses with two F-100 bodies and for digital work the new D-200.
